Creators
No following needed Brands buy a video, not an audience
It is the most persistent misconception in this trade, and it keeps out people who would do the work well. A UGC creator sells a video to a brand, which posts it itself. The creator's own audience never comes into it.
The video goes out on the brand's channels
That is the real difference from influencer work. An influencer is paid to post on their own account, in front of their own audience. A UGC creator is paid to film and edit; the brand takes the file and runs it on its account, in its ads, on its product page.
- You post nothing on your own channels
- Your profile shows no follower count, because it collects none
- No directory filter touches audience: niche, shooting language and accepted rights, nothing else
What is actually looked at
SelfShooty selects you on your audition, then proposes you to brands on three things, and you can act on all three from day one. Your portfolio, meaning what you have already filmed, ordered or not. The language you shoot in. And what you accept.
- A portfolio builds itself: film a product you already own
- Shooting in French, Dutch or English widens what you are offered
- Accepting or refusing paid advertising changes which orders you can be proposed for, not your place in a list
The directory order is a draw
There is no ranking, no score and no paid placement. The order is drawn again every day, and the page says so out loud. Someone who signs up today appears on the same footing as someone who signed up six months ago.
FAQ
- I have no social accounts at all. Is that a problem?
- No. Nothing in the sign-up asks for an account, a handle or a link. What you need is something that shows how you film.
- What if I want to post the video myself too?
- That is not part of it: the brand receives the videos and runs them on its own channels.
- Do I need professional gear?
- The format asked for is vertical, and it is usually shot on a phone. What matters is written in the brief: the framing, the light, what has to be seen and when.
